'Lontong Sedap di Parit Raja, Johor'
“This week, I will bring you to eating place of the most unique and special
Lontong in Johor, famous and it is the....”

by Lontong Warisan Haji Salim.

Lontong becomes a Johorian favorite breakfast and it can also be computed concurrently as lunch if you are lazy to cook other meal. It is a comment dish among Johor people and can be found easily in the restaurant or stall around us.

In Johor and Singapore (maybe also in some regions in Indonesia), the main item is rice cooked in banana leaves shaped like a cylinder and boiled for a few hours until it becomes compact in the mold. And then eaten with gravy coconut soup called ‘lodeh’ as a complement. It becomes much more popular during ‘Eid Hari Raya days and the mold is made from coconut leaf.

The other day my friend told me that in Singapore, they serve ‘lontong’ with ‘begedil’ (fried mash potato usually serve with ‘soto soup’) as one of the complementary materials other than boiled eggs, meat floss and stir-fry sauce or peanut sauce. Another thing is there different kind of version to cook ‘lode’ (coconut soup), there is ordinary simple style of cooking and also pan-fried the ingredient before the coconut milk (much better taste and delicious). For an extra taste, use live shrimp or dried shrimp in the pan-fried and will bring out a very nice aroma that can growth appetite. The recipe was simple and everyone can try it. You can find it a lot of lontong recipe in the web.

For those who are nearby Parit Raja (Batu Pahat), there you can find a restaurant that serves the original recipe of ‘lontong’. The restaurant is easy to find because it is located near the main road (Kluang to Batu Pahat road) on your left side if you are travelling from Kluang. You will see ‘Medan Niaga Parit Raja’ building in front of Shell Petrol Pump Station (on the right). I present it to you ‘Lontong Warisan Haji Salim’.

What is special about this dish is the taste that is so original with all ingredient inside. Furthermore, you can choose a various type of side dish to mix/add with the ‘lontong’ make it so delicious. The side dish you can choose such as ‘sambal paru-paru’ (spicy lung condiment), ‘sambal udang’ (spicy shrimp condiment), ‘sambal sotong’ (spicy squid condiment) and more.

Mee Racun Gearbox
by Mee Racun 3G.

On the way back from Muar, I was again looking for special food along the way. I search in the website and finally found one place selling ‘Mee Racun‘ (Poison Noodle) located at Batu Pahat. I should stop by at this restaurant indeed to find out what is very poison about this dish.

From the name given for this dish is sound awesome. In Batu Pahat alone, there are three locations for you to enjoy ‘Mee Racun’ that is in the Food Court Jalan Sultanah, Taman Seri Jaya and Jalan Timah Sari. Let's review the Poisons Noodle at Jalan Timah Hitam, located near Tabung Haji Building (Jalan Timah Sari).

The restaurant is named ‘Mee Racun 3G’. The location is very strategic because it is close to main roads. It has been operating since 40 years ago. The area inside this restaurant is not very big and there was only a few dining table there, the owner put the table outside the restaurant in the car parking area (open space). It’s quite easy to park your vehicle because it has a lot of parking lot available along the shoulder of the road. It seems that I’m very lucky this time to taste this kind of dish because this restaurant had entered much television shows such as Asian Food Chanel (AFC), TV3 Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan, TV3 Breakfast and RTM National News.

The special dish at this restaurant is ‘Mee Racun’ (Poison Noodle). There are a lot of customers and a bit crowded in the restaurant and sometimes they have to wait for their turn. I was lucky because I got a sit upon arrival. There are two types of ‘Mee Racun’ that is ‘Ordinary Mee Racun’ and ‘Special Mee Racun’. The difference is ‘Special Mee Racun’ have mix together with lamb or ox bones (Gearbox) excellent. I order a ‘Special Mee Racun’ with ‘Teh Tarik’ for my dinner before continuing my journey back to Johor Bahru.

This dish looks really good and delicious with a reddish broth, taste and very appetizing. Apart from that, there are also other dishes like Noodle Soup, Noodle Soup Bones, Kue Teow Soup, Kuew Teow Bone Soup, Regular Bone Soup and many others. The prices are also very reasonable with a price of RM10 for Special Mee Racun and RM5 for Regular Mee Racun. For fans of Gearbox can come to Batu Pahat to taste this delicious Special Mee Racun and you will not regret.

“This week, I will bring you to eating place of the most unique and special
Chili Soup (Asam Pedas) in Johor, famous and it is the....”

Asam Pedas (Spicy Chili Soup)
by Pak Yahya and Mak Pon.

I’m arrived at ‘Parit Jawa’ at dust so better stay here for one night. Let me tell you a little bit story about ‘Parit Jawa’. It is a fisherman village and a lot of fresh seafood supply from this village. So, if there got a plenty of fish also got a special recipe to cook by the villagers. The people here are well known for their special ‘Asam Pedas’ (Spicy Chili Soup) dish.

There are plenty of restaurant and stall serve ‘Asam Pedas’ (Spicy Chili Soup) around Muar. But outside people have a difficult to choose which the best is. Actually, all the ‘Asam Pedas’ sold around Muar are delicious. Some say ‘Asam Pedas’ recipe comes from Malacca, just beside Muar. So, that’s why the people here are very specialist in making this kind of dish. Many of the outsiders confuse between Parit Raja and Parit Jawa. Don’t worry, I will provide you the address and map to find the best ‘Asam Pedas’ you will ever taste at the end of this.

There is two popular stalls that been search by the ‘Asam Pedas’ fans at Parit Jawa Asam Pedas Food Court. Both of the stall provide a delicious ‘Asam Pedas’. Their meals always sold out earlier and their customers come from all over the state and even from the outside of the state. Sometimes it has been a location for Bikers Gathering from all over the country. One of the stalls has already published by the number 1 Media Corporation (TV3).

1.     Stall no 1 own by Mr. Yahya (Pak Yahya) had signed on TV3. The fish sold here is very fresh fish and various kinds. The price is reasonable to get and depend on the size of the fish.

2.     Shop no 6 own by Madam Pon (Mak Pon) and also provide delicious ‘Asam Pedas’ that we can’t resist as well. Her stall does not been published on TV but always be the favorite to the bloggers for their article. I can say that her price also the same with Mr. Yahya stall and another stall around here.

 Asam Pedas Pak Yahya

Today I want to have ‘Asam Pedas’ at stall no 1 (Asam Pedas Pak Yahya). There are several of the fish offers to been cook for the dish such as Indian mackerel fish (ikan kembong), sea bass (siakap), red snapper (ikan merah) and more. I like to have red snapper for my lunch with the omelet (telur dadar) and not forget my favorite Cream Tea. It cost me about RM30 and believe me it worth for the fresh fish that hard to find in the city the fish like this one.

 Asam Pedas Mak Pon

What you guy thinking when to look at this reddish ‘Asam Pedas’. Very delicious hot and spicy dish with a lot of flavor in it makes you dreams to come again for a second visit. If you came to this Royal City just don’t forget to have a visit to the Parit Jawa Food Court and enjoy the great Malay Cuisine. You can plan for two to three days’ trip and stay at the Hotel so you will have enough time to spend with your beloved family in Muar food paradise. There are a lot of restaurant and stall you can choose and also got places to visit such as Gunung Ledang National Park in Tangkak, Tanjung Emas Recreation Garden, also have River Cruise at Tanjung Emas Pier and Hot Spring at Gersik.
It is not so hard to find route to Fisherman's Pier at Parit Jawa. Take the road to Batu Pahat and you will find the signboard after travel about 14 km from the roundabout at Muar City Center. Turn right and you will find it there (if you are taking Temenggong Ahmad Road). There is another route along the coastal beside the sea and straight away to Parit Jawa Village (if using Abdul Rahman Road). Good luck, have a nice day and thank you for reading.
